Fishmonger Alan Snow was instantly hooked after landing a refrigerated
van straight off the shelf from Mercedes-Benz. Mark Fisher finds out
what makes the Vito Sport Chiller such a good catch.
Alan Snow knows his haddock from his hake
and just won’t clam-up when it comes to
talking about fish. Even at 6.30 in the morning,
he’s wide-awake and happy to discuss his
passion for all things piscatorial.
“My wife says I’m fanatical about fish,” he
confesses, as his hygienically gloved hands
scoop yet more ice on to a shop counter that’s
beginning to resemble an a mini iceberg. “It’s
true, I suppose. I really enjoy what I do and I’m
chuffed with the business I’ve built.”
One of the last of a dying breed of traditional
fishmongers, Alan is used to making an early
start; it’s a routine that’s been part of his life
since he opened his Lowestoft-based business,
World of Fish, 10 years ago.

“I love my job and I always look forward to
coming to work,” says Alan, who learnt his
trade at the town’s dockside market and later
ran his own mobile door-to-door business.
